Message from TX-RPOA -More on HSUS Trojan Horse coming to San Antonio

So actually the 50 grand will likely not be used for any good purpose to help any animal per se as HSUS is in the community for educational purpose and not to develop or aid in a good S/N program for San Antonio residents…Let the animal seizures begin-Like a game of cat and mouse these intruders will seize animals and charge even more residents with crimes that they did not commit…The shelters will fill quickly with the innocent animals lives at stake. I do NOT know that this grant money will be used for any good purpose what so ever but instead commit more harm on a state with which HSUS intends to control. What they call education I call political agenda.

A second article on the Humane Society of U.S. (HSUS) coming to San Antonio
can be found at the newspaper link below.

Why San Antonio?  FYI, RPOA has publicized San Antonio’s 7-8 free and low
cost pet spay/neuter programs (varies with grants) for low income pet owners
for many years.  The City even has it’s own permanent clinic “Spay SA”
located in that area.  http://www.spaysa.org  “Spay SA” offers free and low cost
pet spay/neuter plus Wellness Clinics.  This is in addition to a new City
Adoption Center and Spay/Neuter Clinic opened recently where the old ACS
Facility once stood across from the Zoo.  This doesn’t qualify as “limited
access” to services!  SA Animal Care Services usually has an approx. $10
million annual budget.

*  San Antonio is the only city in Texas to be chosen by HSUS among 22
cities nationwide.

*  The $50,000 PetSmart Grant to HSUS will include salary for “an in-house
Pets for Life coordinator” (making them in-house with city government) as
the “key component of the humane society-managed program.”
That won’t leave much for “vaccinations and free/low cost spay neuter
services” in one zipcode only plus covering office space for the HSUS
staffer.

Grant to help West Side pet owners
San Antonio Express-News

SAN ANTONIO – Animal Care Services has received a $50,000 grant from
PetSmart Charities to bring resources and services to pet owners on the West
Side.

The program, named Pets for Life, offers aid to neighborhoods across the
nation with limited access to pet-related services. ACS was the only
municipal shelter in Texas to qualify for the one-year grant. San Antonio is
one of 22 cities to take part in the program established by the Humane
Society of the United States in 2011.

District 5 City Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales said the program will allow
residents to help their pets in a way that will lead to long-term change for
the animals, families and the community.

“Pets love us unconditionally and as pet owners we have the responsibility
to love them in return,” Gonzales said in a statement.

The program is scheduled to start in January.
The humane society and District 5 will collaborate with ACS in the 78207 ZIP
code area to offer free or low-cost services, including spaying or neutering
and vaccinations. Other parts of the program include mentorship and
training.

A key component of the humane society-managed program will be an in-house
Pets for Life coordinator, who will work with residents to access services
for their pets.

The state director of the humane society, Katie Jarl, said the program helps
pets remain in their homes for life and prevent them from going into
shelters.

“This allows us to go into the community, ask them what they need and how we
can be of help,” she said. “It doesn’t matter what ZIP code you live in,
people love their pets.”

Jarl said San Antonio is making strides in underserved communities. She said
ACS Director Kathy Davis and the city contacted the humane society after
learning about the program and a new round of grants.

“They have the passion and dedication it takes to make programs like this a
success,” Jarl said. “We know this grant money will be put to good use.”
