PETA’s Death Toll Nears 30,000 Pets

PETA’s Death Toll Bears 30,000 PETS

Since at least 1998, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has operated a pet “shelter” — more than the misnamed Humane Society of the United States can claimUnfortunately the dogs and cats that are taken into PETA’s shelter are usually killed. And those that were sheltered in 2012 are no exception: According to Virginia state regulatory filings, PETA — the group that preaches “total animal liberation” and that would ban bacon, butter, and Beyonce’s Big Game halftime show — killed 89.4 percent of the dogs and cats it took into its shelter.

The 1,647 cats and dogs PETA employees killed last year bring the animal rights group’s total body count to 29,398 since 1998. PETA has committed this slaughter despite the fact that the group’s president, Ingrid Newkirk, has claimed that “We could become a no-kill shelter immediately.” The self-described “press sluts” are more interested in lettuce-clad “lobster liberation”and offending Holocaust survivors than finding adoptive homes for the pets in its care. PETA even bought a walk-in freezer to store the bodies. That’s probably not the “forever home” most people would hope for.

What makes it scarier for pet owners is that this highest of hypocrisies isn’t completely out of character for PETA. Newkirk has said that in her ideal world, “companion animals [what the rest of us call “pets”] would be phased out.” A PETA staffer wrote in a Florida newspaper that the community should become “no-birth,” putting puppies and kittens on the path of the dodo bird. And — perhaps desperate not to be shamed by the performance of city dog catchers — PETA stood in the way of an ordinance to reduce pet killing in its hometown.

If you are outraged by PETA’s shameful, lethal behavior, please go to and sign our petition asking the Commonwealth of Virginia to strip the group of its status as an animal shelter.

So does your local animal shelter recommend PETA…Do they provide a link to PETA…Do they trot PETS out of the county to an A/C with a rather high kill rate?!? Stop the murdering of innocent animals by these sociopaths claiming to be helping animals and asking for donations-Shut them down!!! Any “rescue'” claiming to be “CERTIFIED”, it’s certified to murder animals!!! Shut them down!!! It’s sickening and it appalling!!! Follow the money!!! Follow the animals!!!

PETA Kills Animals

  1. The problem, the sheer horror of this story is that these are only the animals they “report” does that account for all of the animals they pick up from raids & kill, does that account for all of the dead animals they dump in other businesses dumpsters? Criteria for owner surrender may also not be factored in, owner releases don’t count in a lot of shelter “numbers”

    • I am so horrified by this story and others that are beginning to surface. The true horror being is they take animals to OTHER facilities and consider that NOT part f THEIR KILL rate. In checking with those facilities, how many would we see have been killed?!? How Many?!? These people are sociopaths and are nothing short of serial killers who call themselves “humane”!!! There is absolutely NOTHING “HUMANE” about it!!! Hear me ROAR!!! Best -B

      • and people still support them :( I would like to call them out on the mat & ask them what their definition is of Ethical Treatment of Animals, in a public forum & have pictures of the animals they murdered flashing behind them for the world to see

  2. The vast majority of animals PETA takes in are the ones “no-kill” shelters turn away: those who are ravaged by disease, crippled, vicious because of a lifetime of abuse, being eaten alive by maggots, and more ( Euthanasia is a mercy for these animals, and until the cat and dog overpopulation is brought under control, it will remain the kindest choice for many homeless animals. Turning animals away to die on the streets or hoarding them in cages for the rest of their lives (as many “no-kill” shelters do) aren’t humane or viable options.

PETA focuses on stopping the animal homelessness crisis at its source, by spaying and neutering. In the past 10 years alone, they’ve sterilized nearly 88,000 animals at little to no cost to their guardians, preventing countless cats and dogs from being born only to end up homeless (

Readers should also know that the anti-PETA website mentioned here is operated by a front group for the meat, fur, and circus industries. Animal-abusing companies pay this group to do their dirty work and attack PETA and other groups that are working to end abuses on factory farms. Go here for the truth:

    • LOL!!! I am pro animal usage and protecting human rights while at the same time pushing for PROPER animal welfare!!! PETA is a bunch of crazy extremists pushing their views on the rest of society who think Newkirk is an idiot…she reminds me of Adolph Hitler. You honestly think I believe any of that crap when I know the truth of it; having worked with animals for 30 years!?!-think again, hahahahaha -Don’t waste your time…
