Not sure where this originated but was sent to me…Anyone thinking that Ohio isn’t serious better think again!!! Private exotic animal owners –RED ALERT!!!

All –

Because you recently contacted the State of Ohio regarding the issue of dangerous wild animals in Ohio, I am writing to make you aware of an important upcoming deadline for owners of dangerous wild animals that went into effect on September 5, 2012.

The new law, the Ohio Dangerous Wild Animal Act, requires owners of dangerous wild animals in Ohio to register and microchip their animals with the Ohio Department of Agriculture no later than November 5, 2012 (Section 935.04).  For information on what meets the definition of dangerous wild animal under the new law, please visit: http://www.OhioAgriculture.gov/TopNews/DangerousWildAnimalAct<http://www.OhioAgriculture.gov/TopNews/DangerousWildAnimalAct>

Failure to register animals by the deadline can result in a first degree misdemeanor for the first offense, and a fifth degree felony for each subsequent offense.

Additionally, timely registration is a requirement for anyone who wishes to receive a permit to keep any dangerous wild animal past January 1, 2014. Failure to register and microchip by November 5 will disqualify the owner from permit eligibility.

The registration form can be accessed here: http://www.OhioAgriculture.gov/TopNews/DangerousWildAnimalAct<http://www.OhioAgriculture.gov/TopNews/DangerousWildAnimalAct>) must be printed, signed and returned to the Ohio Department of Agriculture no later than November 5, 2012. It is important to note that forms that do not include microchip serial numbers will not be considered complete.  ODA’s contact information is clearly marked on the form. If you, or a dangerous wild animal owner you know, have questions about the process or other requirements of the new, I encourage you to visit the department’s webpage at: http://www.OhioAgriculture.gov/TopNews/DangerousWildAnimalAct<http://www.OhioAgriculture.gov/TopNews/DangerousWildAnimalAct>.

For more specific questions, please call ODA’s Division of Animal Health at (614) 728-6220.

  1. So if you don’t register and get a computer chip implanted, buy more property, triple the size of the cages, and whatever else they require, by Nov. 5th, will you have till Jan. 1, 2014 to move out of that unholy state without being hassled? -Or are they going to start stealing non-complying animals on Nov. 6th? -Or send Sheriff Lutz and his pals for a little more big game hunting?

    • Wondered that myself!!! But I think I would already have my animals out of there!!! I think their concern is their animal prison and how much they need to spend n that with the threat on both the animals and the people now…Anyone thinking they won’t do it just might end up loosing their animals and behind bars…better think again!!! Also wondering how much those inspections are costing and who’s doing it!!! -B
